Brainstorms has now concluded, with Frameless Lates now resuming on Friday and Saturday nights at Frameless.
Frameless is delighted to host ‘Brainstorms: A Great Gig in the Sky’, featuring the music of Pink Floyd. The Frameless galleries are reimagined in the never-before seen experience, blending music and art with the latest neuroscience and technology, in an exploration of how our minds respond to music.
Showcasing the beautiful and haunting simplicity of Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright’s writing and Clare Torry’s vocal composition, the title track of the experience is the iconic Pink Floyd Track ‘The Great Gig in the Sky’. Visitors will travel through the four main Frameless galleries, each featuring stunning sky-themed creative visualisations of the human brain’s response to music.
This is an 18+ experience and is available on Friday and Saturday nights throughout June 2024.
A music experience like no other, all ticket holders will travel through reimagined galleries each featuring stunning sky-themed creative visualisations of the human brain’s response to music; from mesmerising cloud formations in the ‘Cloud’ gallery set to Dark Side of The Moon and mystical auroras matched to a remix of ‘The Great Gig in The Sky’, to starling choreography in ‘Murmuration’ matched to Imogen Heap’s music.
A limited number of VIP tickets will be available, offering guests the exclusive chance to have their brain responses recorded on the night and then projected onto the ‘Cloud’ gallery walls a short time later. The whole experience has been designed to communicate how people respond to music, while enhancing the listening experience by enveloping individuals inside the songs.
The powerful, immersive experience is a joint venture between San Francisco-based creative studio Pollen Music Group and Richard Wright Music. It brings to life the results of the Brainstorms’ brain data collection that took place last autumn where 125 individuals had their brain activity recorded while listening in unparalleled clarity and depth through Dolby Atmos to 1973 Pink Floyd classic, ‘The Great Gig in the Sky’ from the highly celebrated album ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’.
The instrumental track, which was the creation of Pink Floyd’s Richard Wright, with vocal composition by Clare Torry, features her voice as an instrument in place of lyrics so was deemed the perfect piece for the largest data collection of its kind. The EEG readings of brain activity, which will be showcased within the Frameless experience, were captured by the neuroscience experts within the Pollen Music Group team and reflect the participant’s excitement, interest, relaxation and stress felt whilst listening to the track.
Pioneering musician Imogen Heap and her nine-year-old daughter took part in the initial brain data capture and you can see their brainwaves visualised in the ‘Murmuration’ Gallery, set to her ambient track Cumulus in surround sound.
Developed in Unreal, the projected images of swooping and swirling birds will show how the pair’s data sets align as the flocks mirror how the same music can affect different people and communicates a beautiful visual representation of the Mother, Daughter experience.
Frameless provides the perfect venue for the Brainstorms residency, resulting in a world-first, unique immersive experience for the public. Visitors will witness first-hand music’s extraordinary impact on the brain and its power to affect the way we feel. We are looking forward to welcoming the Brainstorms residency to Frameless.
